Corey Defians Coleman, the son of Melvin Coleman and Cassandra Jones, was born on July 6, 1994, in Dallas, Texas. He attended Baylor College after graduating from J. J. Pearce High School in Richardson, Texas. In the 2013 season, he had 35 receptions for 527 yards and two scores while playing for Baylor.

After the Cleveland Browns selected him in the 2016 NFL Draft, his 25-year-old NFL career began. He later signed a four-year contract worth $11.65 million on May 13, 2016. Corey spent two seasons with the Browns before being traded to the Buffalo Bills on 5 August 2018 and was released on 1 September of the same year.
On September 11, 2018, the New England Patriots signed him almost eleven days later. On October 19, 2018, the Giants signed him to their practice squad, then on October 25, 2018, he was promoted to the active roster. The Giants issued a tender of $2.025 million to the restricted free agent on March 7, 2019.
